Biography

Tslila describes herself as an intuitive painter. Originally, Tslila's style of painting was mostly abstract; recently, however, she has found a new and stylistically alternate form of expressing her feelings about life and its abundance. Using mostly pastel and acrylic, she creates rhythmic, vibrant landscapes and floral paintings, full of textural richness and color. As one critic said, "They make the heart glow and spirit soar."

She received a Bachelor of Education from Shine Teachers College, Tel Aviv, Israel in 1962. A Bachelor of Fine Arts from Teachers Art College, Hertzlia, Israel in 1972 and a Bachelor of Education, majoring in art from the University of Alberta in 1981.

Tslila's works are on display in private collections and international galleries. She was commissioned by the Jewish National Fund in 1999 to paint a special work for the former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Lois Hole.

Statement

I love to express myself through art. Painting is the language that I feel most comfortable in. Intuitively, I reach out to touch a higher set of truths; art being my vehicle of going beyond those boundaries which are often (for me), restricted by the spoken word.

I paint for myself. I paint what either brings me joy, or concerns me. I believe that I reach a wide audience. Different people will get different things from my art. I think that I would like people to become more attentive; to be viewers of the incredible variety and diversity of our world.
My paintings, most of the time, come from my imagination.

I feel that as an artist, it is my gift to take whatever I see and expand upon it. In truth, subject matter is of little consequence. Provided that the key elements of color, relationship, and composition are considered, any subject may be beautifully rendered.

In the words of the British poet John Keats (1795 - 1821), in his poem "Ode on a Grecian Urn"

"Beauty is truth, truth beauty, - that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know!"
